This blanket stitch is made by sewing a loop and passing the needle a few needle widths away from your first stitch. Continue around your patch with this stitch.
Stitch the corner multiple times so the patch doesnt shift or move.

If the rip in the jeans is too large you might consider turning the jeans into a pair of shorts or a skirt.
Go over the area several times to make sure the stitches are holding the fabric together.
