Make sure the invisible zipper side is facing down the stitches. Dont let working with a needle and thread scare you.
Flip the fabric over to check on the closed seam.

To make a pillowcase we first need to measure and cut our fabric to size.

Starting on the bottom side of the fabricbring your needle up through both layers of the fabric.
Thread your needle and start hand sewing at the bottom edge of the pillow where your first pin is.
Cut out a piece of fabric based on the template.

You cant get much more simple than that.
Making a pillowcase in its basic form involves only two hems and two seams.
On the top side of the fabric move the needle over 18 and bring the needle back through both layers of the fabric to the bottom side.

Cap it off by sewing over the ends of the zipper and the edges of the fabric.
With this side you need to be particularly careful because this edge will not be concealed like the rest.
Measure a square to the size you want the pillow to be.
Starting at those top folded cuff ends and keeping your selvedge edges aligned sew a seam down what is now the side of your pillowcase.
Draw a template to this measurement on paper to place over the fabric.
Cut it so that it measures 34 inches long and 36 inches high.

Once you are done stitching go over the last few stitches a few times to make sure it is totally closed snip the thread off tie a tight knot and snip off any excess around the knot.
Plump your new pillow.
Next start to sew down the zipper through the two layers of fabric using your sewing machine with an invisible zipper presser foot.

Wash dry and iron your fabric.
